Assessment Support

A short guide to help students find support during the submission and exam period.

What is a writing retreat and how can it help you?

A writing retreat is a designated period of time and space where students gather together to concentrate on their writing their assignments or dissertations. It can be useful for students starting their work, or for designating time to make sure the work gets done to a submission deadline.

The Academic and Digital Skills team will be running writing retreats to help you put together your assignment resubmissions. Please see our calendar below

If you have been asked to resubmit an assignment, please book on to one of our writing retreats where we can help you to plan and write your submission. Here are some things you can work on:

  • Understand and break down the question
  • Find quality resources
  • Referencing
  • Structure your essay
  • Develop your ideas
  • Write an executive summary
  • Using Generative AI, including referencing and declaration of use

Each session will start with a short discussion to help you focus on a specific area of your assignment. You will be supported by Librarians, Academic Skills Tutors and Student Mentors during the session. Sessions last for 2 hours and will take place in-person at our libraries in Avery Hill, Greenwich and Medway as well as online, over Teams.

Places are limited - book your place on a Writing Retreat here.
