GALA

Creating a GALA feed on a profile page

Staff profile pages are set up by the Marketing Lead in each faculty.

GALA is able to provide a feed, based on RSS, to be displayed on the profile for a specific author, which can be accessed using the following steps:

  1. Go to https://gala.gre.ac.uk and click Browse in the top menu.
  2. Select Browse by Greenwich author and navigate to the author in question.

  3. Use the navigation bar to find out the author's User ID number as shown below, in this example the User ID is 6432. Alternatively, the staff member can log into GALA, and find the number in their profile.

Your faculty marketing lead should use the .include file that exists in the background of every Greenwich Author browse view page to set up the feed. For example: http://gala.gre.ac.uk/view/authors/1234.include where 1234 has been replaced with the User ID.

This returns all the matches you see on the usual browse view page you saw earlier. It will be grouped by item type. This is provided free of any EPrints styles so local website styles can be applied once it is included.

Troubleshooting: Content

If the issue you are having is with the content displayed by the GALA feed, such as:

  • incomplete citations,
  • items missing from the list you know are in GALA,
  • spelling mistakes or random formatting errors,
  • errors attributable to the records in GALA,

please contact the repository team on gala@gre.ac.uk with details of the problem and the citations affected

Troubleshooting: Technical issues and style

If the issue is with the feed itself, such as:

  • displaying the wrong person’s papers or none at all,
  • being in the wrong place on the page,
  • links inside the content not working,
  • not looking right or causing problems with the template,

please refer to your Faculty Marketing Lead who should be able to assist or escalate to the appropriate teams in the ILS department.
