GALA

About GALA

Greenwich Academic Literature Archive (GALA) is the institutional repository of research outputs for the University of Greenwich, managed by the Scholarly Communications Team in Greenwich Research and Innovation (GRI).

The focus of GALA is preserving, collecting, and disseminating research outputs of academics at the University of Greenwich. The open access repository aims to:

  • increase the visibility and potential impact of research outputs
  • open networks of collaboration and facilitate interdisciplinary research
  • ensure compliance with funding agencies and institutional policies
  • evaluate and assess the impact of research outputs by using responsible metrics.

In scope outputs include both traditional and non-traditional. Typically, the type of outputs that are deposited into GALA include:

  • Academic journal articles
  • Books and book chapters
  • Conference papers
  • Creative outputs
  • Working papers

All staff and postgraduate students involved in research are required to record their research outputs in GALA in accordance with the University of Greenwich’s Statement on Scholarly Communications

Access GALA

GALA can be accessed by University of Greenwich staff and students using their single sign-on credentials at gala.gre.ac.uk. All other users can browse, search and access any available full text in GALA from anywhere online without the need to login.

Green open access - act on acceptance

When accepted for publication, deposit your research output into GALA as soon as possible with the author’s accepted manuscript (AAM) attached.

Author versions include submitted versions, versions under peer review, and the author's accepted manuscript. Submitted versions are not accepted into GALA. The AAM can be submitted for the green open access route in many cases. Publisher versions include versions being formatted, in press versions, and the version of record. Check the open access status of the VoR before considering it for upload into GALA.For journal articles and conference proceedings to comply with the REF2029 open access policy, they must have been deposited and processed within three months of acceptance by the publisher. By acting on acceptance you ensure compliance for your outputs.

If journal articles or conference proceedings are deposited without an AAM, they may be returned to the user and not made live on the repository.

How to deposit your research outputs in GALA

Depositing into GALA can be done via three processes: manual, DOI or ORCID. Below are three presentations on how to deposit into GALA using these processes. Currently, these are based on a journal article but can be adapted for other output types.

Multicomponent outputs use a very different process. Please contact the Scholarly Communications Team (gala@gre.ac.uk) for more details.
