Accessing our PhDs for external users

If you are a student or staff member at an external institution you can access our PhD theses via GALA and on Ethos.

Use repositories as a source

Access theses by searching the open access institutional repositories containing the research outputs of institutions. Contents are indexed by search engines so you will find them in web search results. You can search these services:

You can search ProQuest Dissertations and Theses Full Text: UK & Ireland and ProQuest Dissertations and Theses Full Text: The Humanities and Social Sciences Collection from LibrarySearch via the Library & Computing/IT tab in the university portal.

Get UK theses via Ethos

Ethos is the British Library website for UK PhD theses. Most universities in the UK are members and you can search over 400,000 theses including those available for immediate download. You must first register as an individual on the Ethos website in order to download PhDs.

Based at the Drill Hall Library?

Students on courses at the University of Kent or Canterbury Christ Church University can access our PhD theses via GALA and Ethos. Please read the information available on the Drill Hall Library website for more guidance
