What does success mean to me: the evolution of my success

Laura Shepherd (first year BSc Sociology and Psychology) shares how her views on success have adapted alongside her health journey, particularly since receiving her life changing diagnosis of hypermobility Ehlers Danlos Syndrome.

Ehlers Danlos Syndrome is a connective tissue disorder that affects the amount of collagen produced in the body. As collagen is not produced as much, it leads to lots of issues in the body such as regular joint dislocations, stretchy organs and comorbid illnesses. As my journey with my health carried through, so did my idea of what success is and how I can be successful. This can be in elements of having a support system in place, being understood and being kind to myself.

Conference Co-Chair: Aatika Ayoub, Greenwich Students' Union President

As well as being our GSU President, Aatika is a BA History and Politics student.

So many things make me #ProudToBeGre - the multicultural student body, the commitment to liberation of all minority groups, the dedication to wellbeing… but one thing that stands out to me is the strong relationship that past students still maintain with the university. It’s a testament to how welcoming this place is and how so many of us view it as home.
