Academic Support

Here you will find useful directions to the variety of study support services available to you.

Timetables & Workshops

During Terms One and Two, we offer workshops in the following areas:

  • Time management
  • Research and note taking skills
  • Writing assignments
  • Harvard referencing
  • Critical thinking
  • Oral presentation skills
  • Exam and revision techniques.

In addition to these, we offer workshops on:

  • Planning dissertations and writing a literature review
  • English Grammar and punctuation.

Each subject workshop is run over the course of a week. You do not need to book a place; all you need to do is just turn up.

Academic and Digital Skills and Library workshop calendar

In addition to the workshops, we offer one-to-one sessions. At these sessions students are able to seek advice and guidance about particular problems; they can show draft work to a tutor who will advise them on matters relating to structure, critical engagement, grammar, punctuation, paragraphing and referencing.

We  advise is that you:

  • Bring work that has been printed out;
  • Avoid bringing in assignments on the day of a deadline; it is better to seek help sooner rather than later, since we do get extremely busy in the approach to coursework deadlines;
  • If the assignment is a lengthy one, it is better to bring it in over several sessions.

Please note that Academic Skills is not a proofreading service, instead, you are best advised to prepare for a one-to-one tutorial by focusing on a particular problem you have, so the tutor can focus their attention on helping to resolve this.

Outside term time we continue to operate the one-to-one service. Book a one-to-one tutorial on LibCal  or else students can request an appointment outside term time by emailing academic-skills@gre.ac.uk
