Facilities and services for parents accompanied by children at Stockwell Street Library

We recognise that some staff and students have caring responsibilities, and that it may be necessary on some occasions to bring children along when making essential use of the Library.

Children accompanied by staff, students and guardians are permitted for short durations and open access IT areas, provided they remain supervised at all times. 

Parents and guardians must take full responsibilities for their child's wellbeing and safety and ensuring their behaviour is in accordance with the library regulations.  Supervision is the sole responsibility of the parent/responsible adult and cannot be delegated.

The parent/responsible adult must sign in and sign out in the Child Access Diary which is kept at  the security/reception desk. This  desk is located outside of the library access gates, and can be accessed 9am to11pm daily. Please write your name and student number, the time you are entering the library and the number of children you are bringing in the library clearly on the correct date also make a note of the time when you sign out..  

The parent/responsible adult accepts sole responsibility for their child, including their quiet behaviour, good conduct, safety and observation of Library and other relevant regulations. Please see the registration form to the right of this paragraph.

Children may not use any Library equipment, including computing equipment, or use any device on the University’s network included the wireless network. https://www.gre.ac.uk/it-and-library/about/policies-and-procedures/it-policies

If a child is disturbing other Library users, the accompanying adult is expected to take the child out of the Library.

Some areas are restricted:

  • Third floor included the Postgraduate Research study room

The libraries also host workshops and one-to-one meetings with academic support staff. Students should not bring children to such events or meetings without prior agreement of the event organiser or meeting host.

Remember to bring your ID card with you. No ID card, No entry.

Please read this document very carefully before signing the Children's Login Diary.

By signing you agree to the below.

  1. You may bring you child/children into any of our campus libraries during opening hours as a one off or emergency measure.
  2. We are unable to provide computing facilities and you  must not allow your child/children to access any of our computers or mobile devices connected to our W-Fi , using your Greenwich ID.
  3. You must remain with your child/children at all times.
  4. If are child/children is/are using a device with sound then you must provide them with headphones, so as to avoid disturbing other users.
  5. When leaving the library with your child/children you must confirm this by signing out via Children's Login Diary.
  6. If the child/children are causing  a disturbance, you may be asked to leave.
