Using external sources

  • There is one wired external connection option: HDMI.
  • To use the HDMI connection, plug the cable into your laptop and press the “Presentation HDMI” button.
  • Mac users: for HDMI, you may need to select the correct audio output in Sound Settings on your laptop.

Using Mersive – Bring Your Own Device technology (BYOD)
BYOD technology allows you to connect your personal device (laptop or phone) wirelessly to the presentation system. You can use this, for example, to share a video from your phone or to present PowerPoint slides from your laptop without having to use a cable to connect. Solstice Mersive is one of the many technologies used for this purpose.

  • To use this option, press the “Mersive” button and follow the instructions presented on the screen to connect your device.

Room controls

  • In the bottom right corner of the touch panel, you will see the “Room controls” button.
  • Tapping this will bring up the “Camera Control” and “Video Routing” buttons.

Camera controls

  • This room has two cameras:
    • Front camera – is audience-facing and is mounted on the front wall, next to the teaching screen.
    • Rear camera – is pointed towards the teaching area and is mounted on the rear wall.

At the bottom there are buttons to select which camera to control, front or rear or have auto control

  • On the camera control page, you will see the following:
    • Tracking (on/off) – to enable the camera to track the speaker.
    • Pan/Tilt – to change the position of the camera, left/right or up/down.
    • Zoom (+/-) – to zoom in or out.
    • Preset – to choose from a few already set camera frames.
    • Control (Front, Rear, Auto) – to choose which camera to control, front or rear.
  • Select “Auto” and the cameras will change automatically based on where the speaker is sat:
    • If the speaker is sat at the Judge desk and speaking through the microphones here, then the rear camera will be shown (for example, in Teams or Panopto).
    • If the speaker is sat at any of the Witness, Prosecution or Defence desks and speaking through the microphones on those desks, the front camera will be shown (in Teams or Panopto).

Room controls

  • In the bottom right corner of the touch panel, you will see the “Room controls” button.
  • Tapping this will bring up the “Camera Control” and “Video Routing” buttons.

Video routing

  • Tapping the “Video Routing” button will bring up a page that allows you to route any device (such as laptops connected over HDMI or podium PC) to any of the screens in the room (such as the main teaching screen (referred to as “video wall” or “VW” in these instructions and on the touch panel) or the teaching desk monitor)

image showing video routing from inputs listed to outputs listed. Input buttons are labelled 1 Judge HDMI, 2 Defence HDMI, 3 Prosecution HDMI, 4 Witness HDMI, 5 PC, 6 Visualiser, 7 Mersive, 8 Camera Front, 9 Camera rear, 0 None. Output buttons are labelled Judge HDMI, Judge display, defence display, VW HDMI, PC Capture 1, PC Capture 2. All these buttons have a number underneath each showing which source is selected. There is also an All button

  • In the first section of the page, you can see all the inputs:
    • Judge HDMI – is the HDMI cable on the teaching desk.
    • Defence HDMI – is the HDMI cable on the double desk in front of the teaching desk on the right (the one with the big screen)
    • Prosecution HDMI – is the HDMI cable on the double desk in front of the teaching desk on the left (the one without the big screen)
    • Witness HDMI – is the HDMI cable on the small desk to the left of the teaching desk.
    • PC – is the teaching desk machine.
    • Visualiser – is the document camera on the right on the teaching desk.
    • Mersive – is the wireless presentation device.
    • Camera front – is the audience-facing camera that is mounted on the front wall, next to the teaching screen.
    • Camera rear – is the camera facing the teaching desk, mounted on the back wall.
    • None – this option will clear any routing.
  • In the second section of the page, you can see all the outputs:
    • Judge preview – is the monitor located on the teaching desk.
    • Judge display – is the big screen mounted on the front of the double desk, facing the teaching desk.
    • Defence display – is the big screen mounted on the front of the teaching desk, facing the double desk.
    • VW HDMI – is the main teaching screen (video wall).
    • PC Capture 1 – is the capture card normally capturing what is being displayed on the video wall as a feed to the PC (so it can be used for Panopto recordings for example).
    • PC Capture 2 – is the capture card normally capturing the video feed from the rear camera.
    • All – this allows the user to route any input they select to all outputs.
  • To route the desired input to a desired output, press the button for the desired input to select it, then the button for the output to “send” the signal across. For example, to route the visualiser to the Judge display, press the button for visualiser then the button for Judge display.
  • The number underneath each output button shows the source currently routed to that output. For example, number 6 being displayed under the Judge display button means that source number 6 is displayed, which is the visualiser.
  • To clear all routing, press the “None” button and the “All” button, and this will send no source to all outputs.

Volume adjustment

  • To mute the audio in the room, press the speaker in a circle with a line through it
  • To turn the volume up or down, press the speaker up or down buttons as needed

Blanking

  • To blank the screens while setting up (so the audience do not see your process, or perhaps for privacy reasons), press the “Blank” button. This will now flash to show the screen/projection is blanked. When ready to present, simply press the “Blank” button again to unblank
